Limited Edition Collaborative Work
About the Work
Worth the Stairs is a collaborative landscape work between photographer James Lander and artist Crystal Tate, combining aerial photography with layered illustrative intervention.
The composition begins with a bird’s-eye view of a coastal landscape — a vantage point that reveals structure, pattern, and movement often unseen from the ground. Tate’s visual language is then applied with restraint, integrating colour, rhythm, and patterned water to extend the spatial logic of the image rather than decorate it.
Rather than introducing narrative or sentiment, the illustrated elements operate as a second system within the work — drawing attention to flow, depth, and the relationship between land and water. The result is a cohesive landscape that holds clarity while allowing subtle complexity to emerge through sustained viewing.
Worth the Stairs reflects a shared interest in place as something navigated and returned to — valued not for spectacle, but for familiarity, access, and continuity.
Designed to hold presence within a space, the work rewards attention through its layered construction and measured balance between photographic realism and illustrative abstraction.
